Weekly Tip: Excel Slicers

Slicers are easy to use filters. They can be activated for one or more Pivots that use the same dataset or on the dataset itself. To use, click inside of a pivot table or table and Choose Insert/Slicer or Insert/Timeline. Timelines are specialized slicers for Date fields in your dataset. Timelines make filtering by month or quarter or year a breeze.

Hint: To link a slicer to multiple pivots that use the same underlying data, rt-click on the slicer and choose report connections. This is the best way to filter a dashboard.
